Paul McDermott co-founded Cadent in 2003 and is responsible for overall Cadent management. He has been involved in the energy business since 1979, primarily as an investor of private equity capital on behalf of institutional investors. His experience extends through many sectors of the energy industry including oil and gas exploration and production, oilfield services, natural gas transmission, petroleum products distribution and electric power generation and related service companies.

From 2001 to 2003, he was a Managing Partner of RBC Capital Partners. In that capacity, he was responsible for the formation and management of the RBC Energy Fund. From 1996 to 2001, Paul formed Energy Investment Corporation (“EIC”), a consulting firm providing advisory services to major corporations and financial sponsors. From its founding in 1980 to 1995, Paul was a principal with First Reserve Corporation, a private equity fund manager specializing in energy industry investments. Most of the investments involved acquisitions of companies or controlling equity positions.

Paul is currently a director of Liberty Lift.

Paul holds a B.A. degree in Economics from Wesleyan University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
